Later (2nd Wave) A New Hope Action Figures (1978-79)

Figure Name: Hammerhead Kenner #: 39030 Tomart's #: TO1151
Weapons: Blaster Pistol Garments: None Accessories: None
Tomart's Adjusted Price: $8 Found on Ebay Low: Found on Ebay High:
Notes on this Item: Bignose here is a really popular figure, very alien in form, so hence popular with the kiddies and mass-produced in droves. Although one of the lowest-priced figures around, Hammerhead is also very prone to developing loose joints, so he's also very easy to ruin... (If the joints are pretty loose then he's no longer in CNP condition.)

Figure Name: Power Droid Kenner #: 39090 Tomart's #: TO1153
Weapons: None Garments: None Accessories: None
Tomart's Adjusted Price: $9 Found on Ebay Low: Found on Ebay High:
Notes on this Item: The Power Droid from ANH is a classic favorite that was also mass-produced and now nearly worthless. The Decals are easily scraped off and the paint easily chipped though, so like Hammerhead above it can easily be ruined. Additionally, too much use of it's legs can lessen the "clickety-clack" sound it makes when moving them. Then again, so can sulfuric acid. Don't make that mistake like I did... :)

Figure Name: R5-D4 Kenner #: 39070 Tomart's #: TO1155
Weapons: None Garments: None Accessories: None
Tomart's Adjusted Price: $14 Found on Ebay Low: Found on Ebay High:
Notes on this Item: Luke's first choice for an astromech companion, "Red" here is a slightly more valuable figure than the others in this series so far because he was produced in lesser quantities, and his slightly larger decal seems to come off easier than R2's.

Figure Name: Snaggletooth (Red, short) Kenner #: 39040 Tomart's #: TO1157
Weapons: Blaster Pistol Garments: None Accessories: None
Tomart's Adjusted Price: $10 Found on Ebay Low: Found on Ebay High:
Notes on this Item: Red Snaggletooth is the more realistic version of the charachter in the Mos Eisley Cantina, but as it turns out is much more common, hence the low price.

Figure Name: Snaggletooth (Blue, tall) Kenner #: 38861* Tomart's #: TO1159
Weapons: Blaster Pistol Garments: None Accessories: None
Tomart's Adjusted Price: $75 alone, $195 with Cantina playset Found on Ebay Low: Found on Ebay High:
Notes on this Item: In my Star Wars Toy Collecting experince, I have never come across an item with more HYPE following it's rarity than this figure. Forget that the Early-Bird Obi-Wan is worth a whole 10 times as much as this one, the fact is that this figure was made as a mistake, a Sears exclusive when they didn't have the design for the rest of Snaggletooth's body... So when Sears made their own version of the Cantina Playset, (pretty rare by anyone's standards) they basically took a shot in the dark at creating 'Snags' here, and got most of it wrong. Skin color, height, suit color, feet, just about everything was wrong excepting the face and belt. Naturally he's worth a lot more with the Playset than alone, but since TO1159 was never produced without the playset, he's still one of the most-sought, rarest Star Wars Action Figures in the world.

Figure Name: Greedo Kenner #: 39020 Tomart's #: TO1161
Weapons: Blaster Pistol Garments: None Accessories: None
Tomart's Adjusted Price: $10 Found on Ebay Low: Found on Ebay High:
Notes on this Item: Greedo was also a very popular figure, being very alien-looking, so was therefore mass-produced and common today. His Teal-green paint wears off easily though, and if left out in the sun, like a stormtrooper, his light-green body panels will tend to fade over time.

Figure Name: Death Star Droid Kenner #: 39080 Tomart's #: TO1163
Weapons: None Garments: None Accessories: None
Tomart's Adjusted Price: $12 Found on Ebay Low: Found on Ebay High:
Notes on this Item: Another victim of bad naming, the Death Star Droid is only seen on a Jawa Barge on Tantooine, many Parsecs away... Oh well. The Black paint on this figure is notoriously easy to scrape off. I have two of them from my childhood, and although I wasn't rough with them, almost all that paint has fallen off in the meantime. -This leads me to believe that the reason these are so common and cheap is because collectors are often painting them back with black paint!

Figure Name: Walrus Man Kenner #: 39050 Tomart's #: TO1165
Weapons: EITHER a Blaster Pistol or an ION cannon pistol Garments: None Accessories: None
Tomart's Adjusted Price: $10 Found on Ebay Low: Found on Ebay High:
Notes on this Item: A very common and sturdy figure, 'Wally' here is still prone to having his facial and foot paint scraped a bit. It's also interesting to note that this is the only Vintage Star Wars action figure ever produced that was shipped with different gun models... The rest seem to be totally loyal to the guns they used in the movie, and were always packaged with the same gun forever. Unfortunately, the rarity of one gun with Wally versus the other is about the same, especially when not in the package.

Figure Name: Luke Skywalker, X-Wing Pilot Kenner #: 39060 Tomart's #: TO1167
Weapons: Blaster Pistol Garments: None Accessories: None
Tomart's Adjusted Price: $12 Found on Ebay Low: Found on Ebay High:
Notes on this Item: Not many people can pull of an Orange jumpsuit... Perhaps prison Inmates wear a different color in Luke's Galaxy... At any rate, they thought he look looked so good like this, they reproduced him for every last series of vintage toys... An honor only matched by the cloth-robed Jawa, for
some unknown reason. Another thing that added to X-Wing Luke's popularity is that he came with the X-Wing Fighter vehicle, and they managed to sell one or two of those...

Figure Name: Boba Fett Kenner #: 39250 Tomart's #: TO1169
Weapons: A regular, old blaster pistol. Sorry. Garments: None Accessories: None
Tomart's Adjusted Price: $22 Found on Ebay Low: Found on Ebay High:
Notes on this Item: Yep, you read it right. Boba Fett was produced for Episode 4, which he didn't originally appear in! I happened to learn about the existence of TO1169 in 1996, almost two years before Lucas Re-released the re-vamped movies and wondered many times why Boba had the honor of being made into a Toy years before he was in a movie at all... The official line back in that day was that he was a "promotional" character for Empire Strikes Back, and that he was Han's sworn enemy. (It even says "A threat to the Rebel Alliance, Especially Han Solo" right on the card!)
It wasn't until the special Edition of ESB came out that I saw Boba in the added footage scene with Jaba in
the Mos Eisley hangar that it all really made sense. They must have made the Toy before they decided to cut the scene with the Human-being Jaba. Hee hee... I love that kind of stuff.

This is an especially interesting figure with more history than I can write about here, mainly because of the many, varied prototype versions they made of Boba, Including those with a launchable red missile from his backpack. Although you still hear claims today that someone's cousin's roommate once got their hands on one, all of the prototypes that worked were held back, never shipped at all. This was largely due to the bad press that the Battlestar Galactica Toys were generating at the time, apparently one of their customers caught a launchable missle in the eye and Lucas understandably didn't want to get sued too. Only two of those prototypes were made, officially, and the first line of Bobas rolled out with the Rocket Launchers Glued in place. (I have no idea if the spring is still in there or not.)

Oh yeah, one last thing: All TO1169's have the Blue-tinted suit and Helmet, and it's produced for all three movies that way. A Return-of-the-Jedi-only run, TO1171, was made with the Gray-colored suit and helmet, and those were sold in stores as well as mailed out in a promotional mailing. The price is probably the same for a loose TO1169 as it is for a TO1171, but there is no reference to it being worth more in any Price Guide like Tomart's... Only that if it's still in the mailer packaging with the original letter they sent to special-order folks, then it's worth $50. (Personally I would have to guess the Gray one is more rare, but we see more because they were the most recent.)
